What is Breaking Barriers
Breaking Barriers-is passenger transport run for and on behalf of local communities as a complementary service to commercial transport.

What does Breaking Barriers provide?
Breaking Barriers provides minibuses to groups and individuals who are members, most buses have Tail lifts, so can be used for wheelchair users, including some electric wheelchairs.

What can we use the service for?
We provide services for different uses including going to the doctors or hospital, going shopping, work, training, education and many other journeys.

How do we order one?
Minibuses are ordered on a pre-booked service, rather like booking a taxi. A minimum of 24 hours notice is requested (subject to availability), although if urgent, we will try and help you out. Regular bookings are also available.

Can I book a minibus anytime?
You can book a bus for anytime, day or night seven days per week (please enquire for availability during the Christmas period).

How many passengers?
We currently have three different sized vehicles: 16 (excluding driver) seats 11 (excluding driver) seats 6 (excluding driver) seats You can book more than one vehicle at a time (subject to availability). Please note the 1x11 seat vehicle is not suitable for children.

Is there a cost?
A cost of 50p per mile and £1 per hour is levied for group hire. Individuals are charged £4.00 per journey (£8.00 return) anywhere within the city boundary. Other charges are available on request.

Are credit facilities available?
Groups can apply to have thirty days credit limit from the date invoices are issued. Cheques should be payable to: THE GARTHS RESOURCE CENTRE LTD.

Do charges include a driver?
Yes. Each driver has been or is being trained to drive our vehicles very carefully, to ensure passengers are safe and secure and will have full police clearance. After training the driver will hold a certificate under MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme), which is recognized by the Royal Society of Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA). We also have a limited number of passenger assistants available for helping passengers on and off our minibuses

Can we book a minibus for more than one day?
Yes. By negotiation vehicles can be pre-booked for up to one week. Please ring for details.

Can anyone use these services?
Conditions do apply. Use is restricted to those who are in membership: Membership for groups = £12.00 per year Individual membership = £5.00 per year.
